Fundraising Letter for Climate and Social Impact

Company: Northlint

This was created for my Strategic Media Writing course as part of the Media Communications program at Humber Polytechnic. I chose to focus on Northlint, an initiative that collects dryer lint to make quilts and blankets for people in need — combining environmental sustainability with social responsibility.

The goal of my letter was to inform and inspire donors by connecting the effects of climate change to the growing need for warmth and shelter during colder months. It also introduced Northlint’s plan to expand the initiative to schools across Canada, encouraging students to create blankets from second-hand t-shirts.

The letter highlights the connection between environmental sustainability and social responsibility, encouraging donors and volunteers to support the cause. I wrote it from the perspective of a communications specialist, incorporating research, storytelling, and an interview with a volunteer to bring authenticity and emotion to the message.

Through this assignment, I practiced writing with empathy and clarity while balancing informative and emotional appeal which are key elements in nonprofit and cause-based communication.

The letter closes with the line, “Help us deliver comforting hugs this coming colder season — one blanket at a time,” to leave a warm, personal impression.
